Learning Disabilities

A learning disability affects the way a person understands information and how they communicate. This means they can have difficulty:

• understanding new or complex information
• learning new skills
• coping independently

If you have a learning disability, you may also have poorer physical and mental health than other people. This does not need to be the case.

We offer annual health checks for adults and young people aged 14 or over with a learning disability.

Through annual health checks helps, you have an opportunity to regularly review your health and spot any problems early.

Who is eligible?
• Anyone aged 14 or over who is on our learning disability register can have a free annual health check once a year whether you feel ill or not.
• If you and your Doctor determine that you have a learning disability, you will be added to our register.

Please note that our learning disability register is different from the register of social care needs managed by local councils.
